Musigraphic: Interactive Graphic Interface for Visualization of Classical Music in Concert

Abstract
Visualization of classical music, in a concert context, presents a high potential for the attraction of new and younger audiences. In order to attract new audiences it becomes necessary to “build bridges” that promote a positive and valued perception among this potential audience, usually indifferent or intolerant towards this type of music .This project aims to develop expressive languages and strategies for visualizing classical music to promote new audiences.
In a multidisciplinary approach of multi sensorial and emotional communication, the project focuses on the communication and interpretation of music, through the definition of strategies and forms of expressive representation, using the interactive and convergent relationship between musical and visual aspects.
This project has the nature of applied research, in which the formalization of an interface with a strong technological focus is integrated in the investigative process itself – Research through Design. The interface integrates contributions from the areas of visual computing, artificial intelligence and electronics. This project has as external partners the Pianist Raquel Correia (Adjunct Professor ESEC-UAlg) and the Engineer Luís Carlos from the company Forge IT. This company develops technologies with a focus on innovation centered on the themes of Human-Computer Interaction using the areas of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR or XR), artificial intelligence, educational and assistive technologies and areas that integrate components of visual computing, robotics, animatronics, electronics and 3D printing.
