Mountain Villages Museum of the Future
Abstract
A digital museum of immersive and multimedia experience of Aldeias de Montanha, a network of 41 small rural villages located in Serra da Estrela and Serra da Gardunha, in the centre region of Portugal.
It will offer virtual reality experiences linked to experiences in the territory, enabled by physical touchpoints installed in the villages. The hybrid system will allow users to access digital content about nature, history and local culture on their smartphones.
The Museum of the Future will function as a natural and cultural heritage repository, perpetuating traditions, stories and ancestral knowledge using blockchain and NFT technology. It also aims to be a directory of valuable endogenous resources that can generate sustainable economic and social development in the territory. Moreover, the system will be a gateway for creating innovative tourist products supported by hybrid experiences (digital and physical).
Our group will be responsible for all user-research activities, developing various interaction design methods and implementing co-creative methodologies in the field (with local communities). All these activities will inform the design and technological development of the digital museum.
